It was just three years after we started Small Army when I got the dreaded call from my close friend and business partner, Mike, telling me that he had stage 4 cancer. It was an eye-opening moment, that immediately caused me to realize how precious life is. And, in the days, months and years that followed, I also came to understand and appreciate the true value and importance of relationships.
Two years after that call, Mike lost his life. But, due to the support of so many friends, family members and colleagues, Small Army survived. And, we refused to let Mike’s courageous and hard-fought battle end. We started the non-profit, Small Army for a Cause, and the annual fundraiser Be Bold Be Bald!, inviting people around the world to go bald for just one day by wearing a bald cap, and getting sponsored by others for doing so. To date, more than 10,000 people have participated, raising close to $1.5 million for cancer charities, and the bald cap has become a canvas for so many people to share their stories. This year, the event is on December 3, and I’m hoping you will be a part of it in some way.
Sadly, cancer continues to take its toll on far too many people. Just this year, I lost another friend to cancer, and several people very close to meare in the midst of the battle for the lives. And, during this pandemic, not only are cancer patients at greater risk, but so are the organizations that depend upon fundraising to take care of them.
So this year, more than ever before, I ask for your support. Because I know that, when we need one another, we rise to the occasion. Here’s how you can help:
Go Bald with Me on December 3. Go bald on your own, or start a team and get your friends, family and colleagues to do it with you. It’s a COVID-friendly event and easy to sign up at beboldbebald.org. (And, don’t forget to order your bald kit.)
Sponsor Me. If you are not comfortable participating, please sponsor me for doing so with my colleagues by making a donation on my fundraising page.
Spread the word. Between all of us, we have the power to reach millions of people who can participate, donate and/or help spread the word. Please take a moment to share these posts with your communities:
Celebrate with Us. On the evening of Be Bold Be Bald Day (December 3), we will be hosting a virtual party from 5:30 to 7. Please mark your calendars. More details will follow.
Thank you so much, in advance, for your support. Together, our fight against cancer is stronger.
